Job summary

City of Lubbock is seeking a Plumbing Inspector to assess plumbing, mechanical and energy systems in new construction and alterations to ensure compliance with codes. You will review plans, perform field inspections, and document results for enforcement actions as needed.

The role requires a current state plumbing inspector license or a pathway to take the exam within 90 days, plus a valid driver’s license. You’ll work across construction sites and coordinate with homeowners and contractors.

Qualifications

• Possession of a current state plumbing inspector license or be qualified to take the examination within ninety days.
• Qualification generally requires journeyman or master plumbing license, or 500 hours in plumbing trade.
• Must achieve certification by a major code group within one year of hire.
• Valid current Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Inspect plumbing and HVAC systems in new construction and alterations for code compliance.
• Check construction plans for conformance to codes.
• Perform field inspections of work in progress and document results.
• Investigate complaints and take enforcement action per policy.
• Communicate findings effectively, orally and in writing.
• Prepare daily inspection schedules and use computer system to log results.
