Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Test Engineer to lead a small team through structural test campaigns for development and flight hardware, including MGSE planning and data analysis. You will coordinate with internal customers and drive safety-first test execution.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in aerospace testing, proficiency in Creo Pro/E, and strong roots in design fundamentals and materials science. This role requires relocation flexibility, up to 25% travel, and a deep commitment to Blue Origin’s

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Lead a small team of early career engineers through a complete structural test campaign
  • Participate in assembly and test of development and flight hardware including planning, execution, data reduction and analysis

  • Perform root cause analysis and failure investigations
  • Troubleshoot testing issues and manage redlines during campaigns
  • Prepare status updates for internal and external customers

As a test engineer, you will be supporting our mission to return humans to the Moon and extend human presence permanently beyond the bounds of Earth. Relocation may be provided. Travel expected up to 25% of the time. Interviews will include a technical assessment. During integrated vehicle testing, night and/or weekend work will be required.

Responsibilities
  • Lead a small team of early career engineers through an entire structural test campaign
  • Participate in the assembly and test of development and flight hardware including planning, execution, data reduction and analysis
  • Identify and assist in design, procurement and integration of Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE)
  • Lead daily test operations, operate test consoles, direct technician work and coordinate with internal customers
  • Perform root cause, system hazard analysis and failure investigations
  • Troubleshoot issues that arise during testing, including managing procedural redlines and updates during test campaigns
  • Proactively prepare status updates and communicate both within the organization and with direct customers
  • Participate in test readiness reviews, pre and post-test briefings, and post-test reviews
  • Coordinate test crews, support equipment and configurations for testing
  • Enforce safety policies during test planning and operations
  • Find opportunities for safety improvements and cost savings
Minimum Qualifications
  • Passion for our mission: Millions of people living and working in space!
  • BS or MS in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or related technical discipline
  • 5+ years experience, including test-specific experience in at least one of the following areas: loads, life cycle, proof, modal, shock or acoustic
  • Ability to assign tasking, delegate workload and supervise a team of 2-5 engineers
  • Experience working on dispersed rapid development teams, driving process development
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Basic understanding in the fundamentals of design (requirements identification, material selection, input definition, form factors, interface definition, environmental considerations, etc.)
  • Intermediate proficiency in 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E preferred) including drawing creation.
  • Intermediate proficiency in strength and mechanics of materials.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with space vehicle component or integrated vehicle testing including structural, environmental and performance
  • Experience with participating in NASA technical reviews
  • Experience with test facility instrumentation and Data Acquisition and Control Systems, including troubleshooting analog and digital hardware with bench measurement equipment
  • Understands/experience with hazardous operations
  • Experience with control actuators, deployable devices (doors, landing gear, sensors, etc.), hydraulic system components, separation systems, or other mechanical systems
  • Familiarity with sensors including linear variable differential transformers, strain gages, thermocouples, accelerometers, and pressure transducers
