General Purpose: Ensure that work being performed complies to McCarl’s Quality Management System, industry codes and conformance to client contractual requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
· Ensure compliance of the fabrication shop and the field sites with McCarl’s “Quality Control Manual”.
· Help develop and implement quality control procedures for the company.
· Review client QA/QC requirements and implement additional procedures, if necessary.
· Develop Inspection and Test Plans based on contractual requirements.
· Interact with the customer during Client inspections and audits.
· Maintain all quality control records for materials, bolting and welding.
· Oversee the quality of subcontractors working for McCarl’s.
· Assist in the development of prequalified welding procedures.
· Maintain the Welder Continuity Logs.
· Inspect welded joints of work in progress and/or completed units for; visible defects, correct dimensions, weld penetration, and conformance with client specifications.
· Observe techniques and performance of welders working for McCarl’s.
· Witness and document erection activities including bolt testing.
· Coordinate and oversee third party NDT inspectors performing work for McCarl’s.
· Establish and maintain positive, productive working relationships with other McCarl’s Inc. departments and with customers, vendors and third parties.
· Prepare documentation for submittal to customers.
· Effectively communicate and project the principles of “The McCarl Way”.
· Perform other duties as assigned by manager/supervisor.
Supervisory Responsibility: N/A
Qualifications:
· High school degree or its equivalent.
· Journeyman Ironworker trade certification or equivalent experience must be demonstrated.
· Any combination of 1-3 years’ experience in welding and inspection.
· Working knowledge of industry standards including AISC and AWS D1.1 is required.
· Ability to plan and execute quality inspection and testing activities.
· Ability to read fabrication and erection drawings.
· Ability to keep accurate records for project packages to be submitted to Clients.
· Thorough knowledge of structural components fabrication and erection practices.
· Working knowledge of NDE methodologies is an asset.
· Ability to work independently without direct supervision (proactive, self-starter).
· Aptitude for evaluation and analysis, problem solving, planning and organization.
· Intermediate in computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
· Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills with all levels in the company.
Travel Requirement:
This position requires over-the-road travel with overnight stays to assigned project locations.
Physical Requirements: Will regularly sit, use of hands/fingers, talk/hear. Will occasionally stand, walk, grasp, reach w/ hands/arms, bend/stoop/kneel/squat/crawl. Lift up to 50lbs. Near vision. Ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: Will regularly be in an office. For the most part, ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in typical office environment. Will frequently be in a job or shop site. Moderate noise level. Employees must use personal protective equipment as deemed necessary by the industry/construction safety standards and/or by McCarl’s safety policy and procedures. Must be able to work at heights on ladders, scaffolding or man lifts.
