Build what America stands on—one precise layout at a timeFor more than a century, The Tarrier Steel Company has shaped skylines from our Columbus, OH shop. As our next Structural Steel Layout Fabricator, you’ll turn 2D drawings into real-world beams, columns, and connections that hold projects together.A day in your bootsClock in, grab your drawings, and map out the day’s builds. You’ll translate shop drawings into accurate layouts; mark, measure, and verify every line; fit and tack assemblies for final weld; and keep production moving by coordinating with welders and supervisors. Overhead cranes, mag drills, torches, and grinders are your everyday tools. Throughout the shift, you’ll double-check piece marks, heat numbers, orientation, and dimensions—flagging any material or drawing discrepancies early so the team stays on track. You’ll wrap with a spotless, organized work area and confidence in the quality that left your table.Schedule and overtimeTypical workweek: 40 hours + 9 hours overtime per week is typical1st Shift: 5:30am – 4:00pm, Monday–Thursday, 3:00pm Friday2nd Shift: 4:00pm – 2:30am, Monday–Thursday, 1:30am FridayWhat you’ll make happenRead shop drawings to lay out and fit beams, columns, braces, and connection materialMeasure, mark, and square with accuracy using tapes, levels, and layout toolsFit components and tack them in position for final weldingThermal cut, drill, and grind parts as neededOperate overhead cranes, torches, grinders, and mag drills safelyVerify piece marks, heat numbers, orientation, and dimensions before releasing to weldingMaintain a clean, organized, and safe work areaRaise drawing or material issues with your supervisor promptlyWhat you bringHands-on fabrication experienceAbility to read a tape measure accurately and eagerness to learn shop drawingsCoachability with a strong work ethicReliability, a safety-first mindset, and pride in craftsmanshipTraining you’ll receiveSafetyOverhead cranesWeldingFabricationMachineryPaintingInspectionBenefits and perksHealth Insurance: 75% paid; dental/vision offered at cost401(k) with company matchPTO starting at 90 days, with a sell-back plan6 Paid Holidays: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, ChristmasGood to knowThis is a shop job: you'll be on your feet fitting beams, columns and other assembliesTarrier Steel is a drug-free workplace.
