Job summary

Banker Steel Company, LLC in Lynchburg, VA is seeking a Structural Steel Fitter to join our full-time production team. You will read blueprints, lay out and fit components, and weld sections in vertical or horizontal positions, ensuring accuracy and safety.

The role requires the ability to read tape measures, recognize weld symbols, and operate common tools with minimal rework. You will work in indoor conditions, follow OSHA rules, and contribute to quality and on-time project completion.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret blueprints.
• Experience in FCAW welding/fitting.
• Recognize weld symbols.
• Read a tape measure accurately.
• Ability to gouge material.
• Lay out jigs and floor laydowns.
• Independently reads and interprets blueprints for fitting.
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and/or other employees.
• Able to independently perform the attached work with minimal errors/rework and within the time allotted.

Responsibilities

• Weld components in vertical or horizontal position.
• Lay out, position, align, and secure parts using straightedges, squares, calipers, and rulers.
• Examine work pieces for defects and measure for conformance with specifications.
• Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to welding.
• Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
• Follow safety rules and wear PPE as required.
• Understand and follow company and OSHA safety rules.

Required Skills:

• Read and interpret blueprints.
• Experience in FCAW welding/fitting, structural steel background preferred.
• Recognize and understand weld symbols.
• Accurately read a tape line.
• Able to properly gouge material
• Does minor layouts for jigs and floor laydowns
• Independently reads and interprets blueprints for fitting
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor and/or other employees
• Able to independently perform the attached work with minimal errors/rework and within the time allotted
• May perform more complex work with assistance or under direct supervision

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Weld components in vertical or horizontal position.
• Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to assembly, using straightedges, combination squares, calipers, and rulers.
• Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
• Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools common to the welding trade, such as shielded metal arc and gas metal arc welding equipment.
• Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
• Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
• Understand and follow company and OSHA safety rules.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to constantly work in various indoor conditions including hot and cold temperatures, dust and noisy conditions.
• Must be able to lift a maximum weight up to 20 lbs. frequently; 50 lbs. occasionally.
• Must be able to carry a maximum weight up to 20 lbs. frequently; 50 lbs. occasionally.
• Frequent standing, walking, reaching forward, balancing, feeling, object handling, simple hand grasping, firm hand grasping, and operating controls will be required.
• Regular sitting, climbing stairs and ladders, reaching overhead, stooping, and crouching will be required.
• Must be able to properly wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
