Job summary

Extreme Steel, Inc. is seeking a Quality Control Inspector / Field Surveyor to support structural steel erection projects.

You will perform field surveying, inspections, and quality control activities to verify dimensions and conformance with drawings and project specs. Responsibilities include operating Total Station equipment to verify anchor bolts and foundations, interpreting drawings, maintaining weld and bolt maps, documenting deficiencies, and coordinating with Project Management and

Qualifications

• 3-5 years in structural steel fabrication, erection, surveying, or quality control.
• Ability to read and interpret structural and erection drawings.
• Experience with field checking and surveying equipment, including Total Station preferred.
• Knowledge of structural steel inspection practices, bolting procedures, and welding inspection standards.
• Familiarity with AWS and AISC standards preferred.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
• Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and support field operations at project sites.

Responsibilities

• Perform field verification throughout the structural steel erection process to ensure dimensional accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
• Operate Total Station equipment to perform anchor bolt and foundation verification, structural steel layout, field checks, and as-built/post-installation surveys.
• Interpret structural and erection drawings to verify dimensions, installation requirements, and overall accuracy.
• Coordinate survey data with Project Management and Field Operations.
• Perform receipt, in-process, and final inspections of erected structural steel.
• Ensure work meets erection drawings, project specifications, AISC standards, and company quality requirements.
• Monitor and document bolt installation, welding operations, welder certifications, member alignment, plumbness, and fit-up.
• Maintain weld maps, bolt maps, and daily QC reports, and other required quality documentation.
• Coordinate inspections with General Contractors and third-party inspectors.
• Document deficiencies and oversee corrective actions to ensure quality standards are met.
• Exercise stop-work authority when quality requirements are not being followed.
