Job summary

NexGen Contracting, the self-perform arm of Gray, based in Franklin, TN, is seeking a Steel Estimator to join our preconstruction team. This role focuses on preparing accurate cost estimates for steel packages and coordinating with project teams, subs, and vendors.

• HS diploma and 2+ years estimating experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Ability to balance and prioritize workload amongst several different projects at one time.
• Exhibits innovative and creative ways to continuously cut costs off estimates.
• Attentive to detail and accuracy, is committed to excellence, looks for improvements continuously, and exhibits discipline day in and day out.

Responsibilities

• Reviews data and drawings to determine material and labor requirements and prepares itemized lists of cost estimates.
• Compute cost factors and prepare estimates used for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work, preparing bids, change order pricing, vendors or subcontractors agreement, and determining cost effectiveness.
• Consults with customers, subcontractors, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates.
• Interaction with subcontractors to help maintain bid list and contact information.
• Serves as the main point of contact for all preconstruction efforts, pursuing new opportunities for the organization.
• Reaches out in a "precon" manner to the estimating and project teams to facilitate projects being awarded.
