Job summary

Kubala Engineers, a PBK family company, is a forward‑thinking structural engineering firm that empowers its employees to deliver outstanding service and design integrity nationwide. You will manage the structural team, provide the structural design, and coordinate with architecture and MEP disciplines.

The role includes construction administration, shop drawing reviews, RFIs, site visits, and leading multi‑disciplinary projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a structural emphasis; master’s degree preferred.
  • Structural Engineering license (S.E.) in your state of residence.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of full‑time progressive structural engineering experience.
  • Three or more years of multi‑disciplinary project team leadership experience.
  • Experience with California DSA is highly desired.
  • Strong understanding of state building codes and applicable design codes.
  • Proficiency in ETABS, SAFE, RISA, RAM, ENERCALC, Excel, and Bluebeam.
  • Proficiency in designing with steel, concrete, masonry, and wood.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in coordination meetings with other disciplines and design review meetings with supervisors, clients, and owners.
  • Attend work sessions with owner-client agencies to discuss scope of work and our structural design methodology.
  • Coordinate design and documentation required to complete the construction documents on a given project schedule and within the desired budget.
  • Author and maintain structural specifications, select construction procedures, determine materials and member sizes, and complete all necessary calculations for proper design.
  • Conduct shop drawing reviews, RFIs, change proposals requests, and change orders, incorporating changes into the project documents.
  • Use written and verbal communication skills to relay and translate design and coordination items to project team members, and author defensible engineering reports, memos, and email correspondence.
  • Provide site observations and tours during construction, authoring reports based on the walk/observation.

Scope of Work

Works independently yet under the direct supervision of the Engineer of Record for a given project. You will manage the overall structural team’s typical engineering and drafting tasks, provide the structural design, and serve as the primary conduit for all project coordination tasks within the structural team and with other disciplines such as architecture and MEP.

You are also expected to manage the project during the Construction Administration Phase and, either directly or indirectly, review and manage shop drawings, RFIs, site visits, and OAC meetings as required during construction. This role offers substantial professional growth and career advancement within a progressive structural engineering firm.

  • Proficiency in structural engineering and office tools such as ETABS, SAFE, RISA, RAM, ENERCALC, Excel, and Bluebeam.
  • Proficiency in designing with steel, concrete, masonry, and wood.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
