Job Overview

Kubala Engineers, a PBK family company, is an innovative structural engineering firm delivering structural design services nationwide. We specialize in building and bridge design, renovations, re‑purpose studies, structural assessments, master planning, maintenance planning, and forensic investigations.

As a structural engineer, you will work independently under the direct supervision of the Engineer of Record. You will manage the structural team’s drafting and engineering tasks, provide structural design, and coordinate with other disciplines such as architecture, MEP, and civil.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the overall structural team during engineering and drafting tasks.
  • Provide structural design and serve as the primary conduit for project coordination, both internally and externally.
  • Oversee the project during the Construction Administration Phase, reviewing shop drawings, RFIs, site visits, and OAC meetings.
  • Participate in coordination meetings and design reviews with supervisors, clients, and owners.
  • Attend work sessions with owner‑client agencies to discuss scope of work and our design methodology.
  • Coordinate and document required construction documents, staying on schedule and within budget.
  • Author and maintain structural specifications, select construction procedures, determine material and member sizes, and complete necessary calculations.
  • Review shop drawings, RFIs, change proposal requests, and change orders, incorporating changes into project documents.
  • Communicate design and coordination items to project team members and author defensible engineering reports, memos, and email correspondence.
  • Conduct site observations during construction and author reports based on those observations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a structural emphasis (master’s preferred).
  • Structural Engineering license, S.E., in your state of residence if applicable.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of full‑time progressive structural engineering experience.
  • Three or more years of experience leading multi‑discipline project teams.
  • Strong understanding of state building codes and design codes (ASCE, AISC, ACI, MSJC, NDS, etc.).
  • Proficiency with structural engineering and office tools: ETABS, SAFE, RISA, RAM, ENERCALC, Excel, Bluebeam, etc.
  • Experience designing steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
