Job description

Job Description

At EXP, we’re driven to provide innovative solutions for the world’s built and natural environments. As a team of engineers, architects, designers, scientists, creators and a community of professionals, we bring diverse and talented people together to solve the world’s most complex challenges. Here, you join a team that leverages differences, harnesses entrepreneurial spirit, values diversity, seeks sustainable results, and shares ambitions for each other, our clients and the communities we serve. To be a part of EXP means to have your own experience while staying connected to a global network of professionals who believe we are a part of something bigger.

Be our next Structural Project Engineer for building projects. The position(s) required are variable, but Senior Engineers, Project Leads, and Project Engineers will be considered.

Your work environment at EXP

In this role, you will be part of a Building Structures focused team reporting to a Director of Building Structures. The selected candidate’s location is flexible; ideal locations include but are not limited to Chicago and Dallas. The Building Structures team executes projects throughout the United States and several U.S. Territories, and you may support non-U.S. based teams.

The successful candidate will work both independently and with a diverse in‑house team of professionals and sub‑consultants across the country in all disciplines. You will provide technical expertise and mentor less experienced team members. Project types include mission‑critical buildings, aviation, light passenger rail, and commercial building design.

What a day at EXP has in store for you
  • Ability to self‑perform and/or assist others in performing required work at any stage of a project from schematic design through construction administration.
  • Perform calculations, sketches, drawing production, specifications, and multi‑discipline coordination on a regular basis.
  • Conduct observations of and evaluate existing conditions in both the field and via existing historical drawings.
  • Work on multiple projects concurrently, coordinating with multiple EXP offices and outside consultants.
  • Occasional short‑term travel to project sites—usually a single night or two at a time.
What Your Experience Looks Like
  • Targeted experience level is 5–10 years with a focus on building design.
  • Solid understanding of structural analysis software such as RAM, RISA, ETABS.
  • Strong Revit skills in modeling and sheet creation; additional skills in family creation, parameter use, and templates are a plus.
  • Professional Engineering licensure required; licensure as a Structural Engineer via structural specific examinations (Structural I/II, Structural Gravity/Lateral) preferred.
  • Master’s degree in Structural Engineering strongly preferred; Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis on structures considered a minimum requirement.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to write persuasively and communicate technical subject matter concisely to a less technical audience.
Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $90,000 to $125,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to the candidate's skill set, experience, certifications, and geographic location.

In addition to competitive pay, we offer a comprehensive benefits package for all full‑time employees, including health insurance, vacation time, and 401(k) retirement benefits.
