Job description

Structural Designer/Engineer

You will be a part of the Building Structures focused team, reporting to the Director of Building Structures. The position is located in the Chicago office and works on projects throughout the United States and various U.S. territories, with opportunities to support non‑U.S. based teams.

Responsibilities

• Take direction from senior engineers and project leads; expect autonomy and independence to be commensurate with experience.
• Perform calculations, sketches, drawing production, specifications, and multi‑discipline coordination on a regular basis.
• Conduct observations and evaluate existing conditions in both the field and with existing historical drawings.
• Work on multiple projects concurrently, coordinating work between multiple EXP offices and outside consultants.
• Occasional short‑term travel to project sites (usually a single night or two at a time).
• Flexible hours and hybrid office attendance.

Qualifications

• Targeted experience level is 0-3 years with a focus on building design.
• Solid understanding of structural analysis software such as RAM, RISA, ETABS.
• Strong Revit skills in both modeling and sheet creation; additional skills in family creation, parameter use, and templates are a plus.
• Working toward EIT.
• Master’s degree in Structural Engineering is preferred; a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis on structures or relevant advanced coursework is a minimum requirement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to write persuasively and communicate technical subject matter concisely to non‑technical audiences.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $70,000 to $90,000. Compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including skill set, experience, certifications, and geographic location.
