Structural Designer/Engineer

Be our next Structural Designer/Engineer for building projects in Aviation, Transit, and Mission Critical.

Work Environment

In this role, you will be a part of a Building Structures focused team and reporting to the Director of Building Structures. The position will be located in the Chicago office.

The Building Structures team executes projects throughout the United States and several U.S. Territories. In addition, opportunities to support non-U.S. based teams within EXP should be expected.

The successful candidate will work with a diverse team across the country in all disciplines. You will collaborate with experienced members of the Building Structures team for mentoring and career development.

The chosen candidate should expect engagement in a variety of project types. Major market sectors include mission critical buildings, aviation, light passenger rail facilities and commercial building design.

Responsibilities

Generally take direction from senior engineers and project leads. Expect autonomy and independence to be commensurate with experience.
Perform calculations, sketches, drawing production, specifications, and multi‑discipline coordination on a regular basis.
Conduct field observations and evaluate existing conditions using historical drawings.
Work on multiple projects concurrently, coordinating with multiple EXP offices and outside consultants.
Occasional short‑term travel to project sites, usually one night or two at a time.
Adapt to flexible hours and hybrid office attendance.

Qualifications

Targeted experience level 0–3 years with a focus on building design.
Solid understanding of structural analysis software such as RAM, RISA, ETABS.
Strong Revit skills in modeling and sheet creation; additional skills such as family creation, parameter use, and templates are a plus.
Working toward EIT certification.
Master’s degree in Structural Engineering preferred; a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis on structures, and/or relevant advanced coursework considered minimum.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to write persuasively and convey technical matters concisely to a non‑technical audience.

Salary & Benefits

The salary range for this role is $70,000 to $90,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors including skill set, experience, certifications, and geographic location. Compensation may vary by location due to cost of labor.
