Overview
A nationally recognised structural engineering consultancy is seeking a Structural Project Engineer to join its growing team in Chicago, Illinois. The firm delivers innovative structural engineering solutions across a diverse portfolio of complex projects, including mission critical (data centres), life sciences, biotechnology, healthcare, aviation, and other large-scale commercial developments.

Key Responsibilities
- Design structural systems for complex new-build and renovation projects across multiple market sectors
- Prepare structural calculations, technical reports, specifications, and construction documents
- Develop structural models and perform analysis using industry-standard engineering software
- Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers, contractors, and other project stakeholders throughout project delivery
- Participate in design meetings, client presentations, and multidisciplinary coordination
- Support project managers with technical delivery, scheduling, and quality assurance
- Review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, and provide construction-phase engineering support
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative team environment
Requirements
- Bachelor\'s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering (Master\'s degree strongly preferred)
- 5–7 years of structural engineering experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred
- Structural Engineer (SE) license is a plus
- Experience delivering projects within mission critical, data centres, life sciences, biotechnology, healthcare, aviation, or large commercial buildings
- Experience designing structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and foundation systems
- Proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as ETABS, SAP2000, RAM Structural System, RISA-3D, SAFE, Revit Structure, Tekla Structural Designer, or similar
- Strong understanding of the International Building Code (IBC), ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC Steel Manual, and relevant structural design standards
- Excellent communication and coordination skills with the ability to work within multidisciplinary project teams
- Base salary between $95,000 – $120,000 depending on experience
