Job summary

Randerson Technical Staffing represents a client, a leading professional design firm, seeking a Structural Engineer/Project Manager to lead buildings and infrastructure projects, from concept through construction, in the Chicago area.

You will oversee multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior staff, support business development, and ensure adherence to codes and standards while delivering innovative, cost-effective structural solutions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from an accredited program.
  • PE license required; SE license or completion of the NCEES SE exam preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive structural engineering experience.
  • Technical expertise with analysis software such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Revit, plus industry-standard structural software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural engineering projects from concept development through construction completion.
  • Plan, analyze, and design structural systems for commercial, institutional, industrial, municipal, transportation, and other building projects.
  • Prepare and review structural calculations, specifications, technical reports, construction documents, and engineering studies.
  • Design structures using structural steel, reinforced and post-tensioned concrete, masonry, timber, and foundation systems.
  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, staffing, and resource allocation to ensure successful delivery.
  • Coordinate with architects, civil engineers, MEP consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Utilize structural analysis and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software for design and project execution.
  • Provide technical leadership, quality assurance, and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
  • Conduct peer reviews and oversee compliance with applicable building codes and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Support proposal preparation, client development, and business growth initiatives.
  • Prepare material takeoffs, cost estimates, and engineering opinions of probable construction costs.
  • Participate in construction administration activities.
  • Conduct field investigations, condition assessments, and structural evaluations of existing facilities.
  • Support forensic investigations, rehabilitation projects, and structural assessments.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly motivated Structural Engineer / Project Manager to join their growing structural engineering team. You'll lead the planning, design, and delivery of diverse building and infrastructure projects while serving as a technical resource, project manager, and client liaison. Depending on experience, you may oversee multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior staff, contribute to business development, and support the continued growth of the structural department.

What You Bring

  • Proven ability to work independently while collaborating in a team environment.

$120,000 – $140,000 per year, plus a full benefits package: 401(k) with matching, health, dental, and vision insurance, life insurance, employee assistance program, paid time off, parental leave, professional development assistance, tuition reimbursement, retirement plan, and referral program.
