Job summary

City of Sunrise is seeking a qualified Structural Plans Examiner to review buildings for compliance with the Florida Building Code and local ordinances, including HVHZ requirements. The role involves field inspections, enforcing code provisions, and collaborating with inspectors and engineers to ensure public safety.

The ideal candidate holds required Florida licenses/certifications and has experience in high-velocity hurricane zones, with strong communication skills and attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Proficient in plan review and building code interpretation.
• Strong knowledge of Florida Building Code (FBC) and HVHZ requirements.
• Ability to read architectural and structural drawings and evaluate compliance.
• Ability to communicate clearly with property owners, contractors, and inspectors.

Responsibilities

• Review structural plans for compliance with FBC, City ordinances, and other codes.
• Perform structural field inspections as needed.
• Issue stop-work or unsafe-structure orders when required.
• Assist in prosecution preparation and represent the City at hearings.
• Provide technical guidance on Florida Building Code questions.
