Qualifications

• Washington PE license in Civil or Structural Engineering required; SE license preferred.
• ICC Structural Plans Examiner certification preferred.
• Valid Washington State driver's license; strong English communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural plan reviews for residential, commercial, and public projects.
• Review drawings/calculations for compliance with IBC, IRC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC, NDS.
• Approve or disapprove plans and document decisions.
• Evaluate foundations, framing, and lateral systems.
• Issue notices of violation and orders; document code violations.
• Communicate with the public, developers, contractors, and agencies.
• Monitor and report development status using SmartGov and Bluebeam.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Structural Plans Examiner to support the City of Lynnwood's Development Services Department. This role provides structural plan review services for residential, commercial, and public building projects, ensuring compliance with the Lynnwood Municipal Code, International Building Code (IBC), and Washington State laws.

The ideal candidate is a licensed structural engineer with strong analytical skills and a commitment to public safety. This position requires daily interaction with developers, contractors, engineers, and the public.

This is a non-personal services contract position. The contractor employee reports directly to the Prime Contractor for all HR, disciplinary, and administrative matters, while receiving work direction from City of Lynnwood management.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform structural plan reviews for residential, commercial, and public building projects
• Review structural drawings and calculations for compliance with IBC, IRC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC, and NDS
• Approve or disapprove plans, alterations, and changes; document decisions
• Evaluate structural systems including foundations, framing, and lateral force-resisting systems
• Issue notices of violation and orders; document code violations
• Communicate effectively with the public, developers, contractors, and agencies
• Monitor, track, and report on development status using SmartGov and Bluebeam

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required; Master's degree preferred
• Minimum five (5) years of experience in structural engineering and/or structural plan review
• Washington State Professional Engineer (PE) license in Civil or Structural Engineering required
• Structural Engineer (SE) license preferred
• ICC Structural Plans Examiner certification preferred
• Valid Washington State Driver's License
• Expert knowledge of IBC, IRC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC, and NDS
• Proficient in structural analysis software and Microsoft Office Suite
• Proficient in written and verbal English
• Exceptional customer service and communication skills

Schedule & Work Conditions

• Hours: Typically 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday
• Location: Lynnwood City Hall, 19100 44th Ave W, Lynnwood, WA 98036
• Federal holidays off

Security Requirements

• Must pass a criminal background check
• Must wear government-issued identification badge at all times
• Must complete City-required cybersecurity awareness training

Additional Requirements

• Must maintain valid Washington State automobile insurance if using a vehicle on City business
