Job summary

Matrix Service Co is seeking an Engineer I for Shell & Plate design and analysis at our PDM Engineering locations in Tulsa, OK and Pittsburgh, PA. The role focuses on structural and mechanical analysis for liquid storage structures, tanks, and foundations, collaborating with a team of engineers and designers to support field and fabrication offices.

Ideal candidates hold a BS/MS in Civil (Structural) or Mechanical Engineering and are entry-level with internship experience preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or Master of Science in Civil (Structural) or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Entry-level Engineer; no experience required. Internship experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of strength of materials, mechanics, and structural analysis. FEA experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with Mathcad, AutoCAD, STAAD, and ANSYS preferred.
  • Cooperates with team members; interacts professionally at all organizational levels.
  • Excellent listening, oral and written skills.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to follow directions.
  • Proactive attitude and positive demeanor.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word. Outlook and Teams preferred.
  • Travel may be required to construction sites in North America for extended durations.
  • Overtime may be required, particularly when assigned to project locations.

  • Performs engineering design and calculations for structures in liquid storage terminals (steel and concrete) and their appurtenances.
  • Performs analysis including structural, vibration, seismic and thermal loading and other required analyses.
  • Applies standard techniques and criteria for conventional projects with limited complexity.
  • Communicates and transfers engineering data to aid field staff and craft.
  • Transfers field issues to the engineering group to improve deliverables for fabrication, erection, installation and testing of equipment.
  • Documents and assists in resolving technical issues at the jobsite.
  • Works on special projects as directed by a supervisor or other engineers.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Summary

The Engineer I – Shell & Plate is responsible for performing design and analysis work for liquid storage structures, specialty vessels, and foundations using sound engineering principles. Typical applications include aboveground storage tanks, LNG storage terminals, low temperature storage such as propane/butane, ammonia tanks and liquid hydrogen spheres, above ground storage tanks and related equipment. This role works on individual tasks in a collaborative team of engineers and designers to support field and fabrication offices.
