Job summary

Turner Industries is seeking an Ironworker in the Cameron, LA area. The role involves raising, placing and uniting girders, columns and other structural-steel members to form completed structures and frameworks.

Work is performed as part of a crew under the foreman and follows site-specific procedures. Responsibilities include setting up hoisting equipment, aligning members, bolting connections, and following client safety requirements.

Qualifications

• High school or equivalent
• One (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)
• Knowledge of ironworker tools and how to use them
• Rigging skills including wire rope slings
• NCCER preferred
• Per diem available, must be atleast 50 miles from the jobsite to qualify
• Written pre-employment qualification test
• Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
• Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.)
• Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.)
• Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace

Responsibilities

• Off loads deliveries of structural material from hg the fabricator
• sets up and breaks down hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members
• fastens steel members to cable of hoist
• signals worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel member
• guides member or rides on member in order to guide it into position
• pulls or pries steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device
• forces members into final position
• aligns holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member
• verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members
• bolts aligned members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted
• cuts steel members to make alterations
