Job summary

Southwest Shipyard, LP is hiring a skilled structural fitter to fabricate, assemble and install metal structures per blueprints. You will cut, fit, and weld parts, check quality, and coordinate with welders to ensure structural integrity. Position requires on-site work at Channelview, with day/night shifts and overtime.

Qualifications

• Must have or be eligible to obtain a TWIC card.
• Minimum one year experience as a structural fitter (shipyard experience preferred).
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Good communication skills and leadership ability; English & Spanish bilingual.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural fitter assignments as assigned.
• Work safely and maintain a safe working environment.
• Notify foreman or supervisor of safety and structural issues.
• Lay out, position, align and fit together fabricated structural steel plate according to specs.
• Move parts into position using hoists or cranes; align with jacks or similar tools.
• Tack weld or welding as necessary; assist welder to build up low spots.
