Responsibilities

• Align and secure components, checking dimensions, squareness, and orientation before welding.
• Coordinate with structural welders and supervisors to maintain production and resolve fit-up issues.
• Assist with material positioning and handling within training and authorization.
• Identify drawing discrepancies or material issues and communicate them to supervision.
• Inspect tools and follow site safety procedures while maintaining an orderly work area.

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Structural Fitter to join our team in Destrehan, Louisiana. The ideal candidate will have experience laying out, fitting, and assembling structural steel and a strong commitment to safety and quality workmanship. This role involves preparing structural components for welding and installation while maintaining the dimensions and alignment required by project drawings.

Key Responsibilities

• Lay out, fit, and assemble structural steel components according to fabrication and erection drawings.
• Read drawings, connection details, dimensions, and material identification to plan fit-up.
• Measure, mark, cut, grind, and prepare structural members and plates for assembly.
• Align and secure components, checking dimensions, squareness, and orientation before welding.
• Coordinate with structural welders and supervisors to maintain production and resolve fit-up issues.
• Assist with material positioning and handling within training and authorization.
• Identify drawing discrepancies or material issues and communicate them to supervision.
• Inspect tools and follow company and site safety procedures while maintaining an orderly work area.

Qualifications

• Valid TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card required.
• Reliable transportation to the assigned job site.
• Experience fitting and assembling structural steel in a construction or industrial environment.

• Proficiency with measuring, layout, cutting, and grinding tools.
• Strong attention to fit-up accuracy, alignment, and safe material handling.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with beams, columns, braces, platforms, and structural supports.
• Familiarity with fabrication and field installation of structural assemblies.
• Ability to troubleshoot fit-up problems and coordinate effectively with welders and other trades.
