Job description

Engineering Associate / Field Engineer

Description

Self-directed field engineer or technician, working as part of a larger team, responsible for completing residential and commercial framing and load-bearing analysis inspections for residential structures, as well as foundation inspections.

Prepares and/or reviews subsequent engineering reports. Provides excellent customer service and maintains positive client relationships. Training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  1. Perform visual foundation inspections, including:
  • Record visual damage notes and other structural characteristics
  • Prepare to-scale diagrams of structures and other field measurements
  • Evaluate terrain and drainage features surrounding structures
  • Interview homeowners as needed
  • Crawl and inspect attics or crawlspaces to identify issues
  • Verify work completion for post-construction inspections
  • Evaluate repairs according to local construction codes (if necessary)
  • Answer property owner questions thoroughly and politely
  • Prepare and review engineering data for review:
    • Make recommendations or verify design plans conform to engineering standards and local codes
    • Provide neat and organized paperwork upon inspection completion
    • Review digital reports for accuracy of statements and recommendations

    Required Skills and Qualifications

    • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for client interaction
    • Exceptional time management skills

    • Ability to utilize mobile technology for inspections

    • Willingness to drive long distances as needed
    • Ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and managing multiple projects
