Job summary

HDR is seeking a Structural Engineering Team Lead in Walnut Creek, CA to guide a multidisciplinary team of engineers, designers and modelers toward project delivery with technical excellence. You will supervise staff, mentor colleagues, coordinate complex design work and ensure timely completion of documents.

The role integrates marketing, client engagement and collaboration with other disciplines within HDR’s Building Engineering Services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years experience.
  • Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments.
  • Good leadership and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical expert with recognized authority in structural engineering as it relates to projects, and resolve problems of greater scope and complexity.
  • Perform, plan, direct, and monitor all structural aspects of large multidiscipline projects or medium-sized projects with high degree of technical complexity, typically involving a large project staff.
  • Coordinate staffing and workload of staff through entire project development to complete documents on schedule.
  • Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently.
  • Be involved in marketing planning, proposals and interviews.
  • Be directly involved with industrial and public clients in marketing, project production and related issues.

Structural Engineering Team Lead

In the role of Structural Engineering Team Lead, we'll count on you to work with other NorCal structural team leads and under guidance of the NorCal structural business class lead to:

  • Supervise and be responsible for a team of engineers, designers, and/or modelers toward technical training and development, project delivery, and workload management
  • Serve as a technical expert with recognized authority in structural engineering as it relates to projects, and resolve problems of greater scope and complexity
  • Perform, plan, direct, and monitor all structural aspects of large multidiscipline projects or medium-sized projects with high degree of technical complexity, typically involving a large project staff
  • Coordinate staffing and workload of staff through entire project development to complete documents on schedule
  • Produce and coordinate several projects concurrently
  • Coordinate staffing and workload of staff through entire project development to complete documents on schedule
  • Conduct schematic, design development and contract document work sessions in conjunction with other Project Managers, appropriate technical professionals and other disciplines
  • Assist in the responsibility for operations of production section including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing support
  • May function as an Assistant Project Manager and assist in responsibility for production on projects in addition to management responsibilities
  • Assist with administrative responsibility for section staff and technical service functions, and lead and coordinate services with other sections
  • Be involved in marketing planning, proposals and interviews
  • Be directly involved with industrial and public clients in marketing, project production and related issues
  • Assist in ensuring that all work is planned, organized, controlled and evaluated through proactive project management system
  • Implement, monitor and support company policy
  • Assist in the selection, training, development and management of technical personnel
  • Work cooperatively with National Directors and marketing staff in local and national marketing and production efforts
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Licensed California SE
  • Minimum of 1 year of directly supervising engineers
  • MS in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Experience with ACI 350 water containing structures design
  • Experience with OSHPD Projects
  • Experience with ASCE 41 seismic retrofit design
  • Experience with structural condition assessment, repair, and rehabilitation
  • Experience and/or interest in sustainable design/LEED
  • Located in Northern California and ability to work full time in person in assigned office (WC or Folsom)

The expected compensation range for this position is $120,967.00 - $196,375.00 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
