Job summary

HDR is seeking a Structural Project Engineer in Walnut Creek, CA to join our Building Engineering Services Group. The role centers on the structural design of facilities across multiple markets, coordinating with multidiscipline teams from planning through construction.

You will develop construction drawings, specifications, and supporting calculations, reviewing shop drawings, and delivering high-quality structural designs. A PE license and strong leadership are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a structural emphasis.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE or equivalent) in the location of the position offered.
  • Demonstrated leadership and clear communication skills.
  • Experience with structural design and detailing for building projects.
  • Proficient in common structural software listed in qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Review structural documents for coordination with other disciplines.
  • Prepare and edit structural specifications and calculations; develop construction drawings.
  • Coordinate the structural design team through design development and CD phases.
  • Participate in meetings with agencies for code compliance.
  • Support construction administration with shop drawing reviews and RFI handling.
  • Lead workload planning to meet project schedules and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with other disciplines and incorporate changes into documents.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

HDR is looking for a Structural Project Engineer to join our Building Engineering Services Business Group in Walnut Creek or Folsom, CA office. This individual will be responsible for the structural design of facilities in support of a variety of markets including Technology, Corporate/Commercial, Education, Healthcare, Water/Wastewater, Municipal, Industrial, Power, and Federal. They will be expected to coordinate and work closely with a multidiscipline design team throughout the entire life cycle of projects from planning stages, through the development of construction documents, and construction administration. They will be responsible for the development of construction drawings, specifications, and supporting engineering calculations, as well as the review of shop drawings during construction. Experience in structural design and detailing of building related projects is required. This individual should be self- motivated, collaborative and possess strong leadership skills with an initiative to deliver high quality, technically sound structural engineering designs.

In the role of Structures Project Engineer, we'll count on you to:
  • Review structural documents for areas of conflict with all disciplines
  • Write and edit structural specifications, select procedures, materials and their respective sizes, and complete necessary calculations
  • Independently coordinate the work of the structural design team through the design development and contract document phases of a project
  • Establish meetings and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance
  • Conduct design development and contract document work sessions at project site in conjunction with the Project Manager and other disciplines
  • Take responsibility for coordinating workload through design development and construction document phases to complete the documents on schedule
  • Coordinate and assist with affected disciplines, with any addendum, requests for information, change proposal requests and change orders, and incorporate agreed-upon changes into the project documents
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or BS degree in Architectural Engineering; Structural emphasis
  • SE license
  • Previous structural engineering experience
  • AutoCAD, RISA, Staad, SAP, Tedds, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm
  • A minimum of 5 years structural engineering experience
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Previous experience in general civil engineering
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Demonstrated leadership and communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
