IMEG is hiring a Structural Engineering New Graduate in Chicago or Naperville, Illinois. This entry-level role offers hands‑on design, analysis, and project execution experience, with mentorship, training, and opportunities to grow your expertise from day one. You will work closely with experienced engineers and consultants to support structural systems for buildings and other structures. You will help develop designs and project documents, support construction‑phase activities, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams while working within project budgets and client expectations. The team supports commercial and institutional work across Chicagoland and the broader Midwest, contributing to sustainable design goals including SE2050.

What You’ll Do
  • Assist in the design and analysis of structural systems using a variety of building materials, engineering software, and design tools to develop designs, specifications, and calculations in accordance with code requirements and IMEG standards.
  • Interact with clients to understand project needs, gather requirements, communicate technical information, and help build professional client relationships.
  • Support project planning, scheduling, and execution as part of a consulting project team to meet project deadlines and objectives.
  • Document design decisions and client instructions while monitoring project progress.
  • Analyze low to medium complexity engineering tasks and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical, efficient solutions.
  • Participate in IMEG quality control processes to ensure designs and solutions meet IMEG standards, industry standards, and client requirements.
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in structural engineering, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.
  • Prioritize safety, conduct work ethically and professionally, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, architects, and project managers to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Support projects through the full life cycle, from conception through construction, by developing designs, preparing construction documents, reviewing construction submittals, and participating in job‑site observations.
  • Work within the project's monetary budget while collaborating with cross‑functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.
What You’ll Bring
  • Required Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of design techniques, design standards including steel, concrete, wood, masonry, and concepts involved in structural systems of buildings and structures.
    • Strong technical and analytical skills including knowledge of principles relating to structural mechanics and materials as it relates to structural design of buildings and other structures.
    • Knowledge of industry standard engineering software and tools including structural analysis and design software.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and demonstrate effective team building skills.
    • Attention to detail and problem‑solving skills.
    • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
    • Basic knowledge in the use of Building Information Model software.
    • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups.
    • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook.
    • Ability to travel up to 5% with occasional overnight stays.
  • Preferred:
    • Master’s Degree (MS) in Structural Engineering.
    • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry.
    • Engineering in Training (EIT) License.
Physical Requirements

Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds. Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull. Will have limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises.

Recent work includes Village of Schaumburg Public Safety Facility, Government (City/County/State), and Cardinal Health Glendale Heights Cyclotron Addition, Commercial.

Salary

State of Illinois Salary Range: $74,000–$77,000 per year

Additional Compensation

Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.
