Job summary

Great Bay Staffing Group seeks a structural engineer to design and manage projects from concept through construction across commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential sectors in the Greater Pittsburgh region.

You will work with architects, contractors, developers, and other engineers, applying codes and standards to develop economical structural solutions while coordinating with CAD/Revit teams and leading project reviews.

Qualifications

• Engineer-in-Training certification (EIT) required or in progress.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or obtainable in timeframe.
• Minimum 3 years structural engineering experience in consultancy.
• Solid knowledge of building codes, design standards, and industry practices.
• Strong written and verbal communication; client and team interaction.
• Excellent organizational and analytical problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Design structural systems for commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential projects from concept to construction.
• Perform structural analysis for steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures per codes.
• Develop practical and economical structural solutions meeting project objectives.
• Coordinate with architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil, and geotechnical teams.
• Review specs, drawings, and site conditions to build complete designs.
• Direct CAD and Revit designers on construction documents and drawings.
• Check documents for quality, accuracy, and completeness before clients.
• Join planning, design reviews, and coordination meetings with clients and stakeholders.
• Conduct site visits and inspections to verify design intent in the field.
• Respond to RFIs and review shop drawings during construction.
• Manage multiple projects with schedules, budgets, and quality control.

Join a well-established, growing structural engineering consulting firm serving commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential clients across the Greater Pittsburgh region. As the firm's client base and project portfolio expand, you will take on structural design work from concept through construction. You will work alongside architects, contractors, developers, and fellow engineers.

Your Day-to-Day

• Design structural systems for commercial, industrial, institutional, and residential projects, from schematic design through construction administration
• Perform structural analysis and calculations for steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures, ensuring compliance with building codes and engineering standards
• Develop practical, economical structural solutions that meet project objectives
• Coordinate your designs with architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil, and geotechnical disciplines
• Review specifications, architectural drawings, and field conditions to build complete structural designs
• Direct CAD and Revit designers as they prepare construction documents and structural drawings in AutoCAD and Revit
• Check construction documents for quality, accuracy, and completeness before they reach the client
• Join planning meetings, design reviews, and coordination meetings with clients, architects, contractors, and stakeholders
• Conduct site visits, field observations, and construction inspections to confirm the work matches design intent
• Respond to RFIs and review shop drawings during construction
• Manage multiple projects at once while keeping schedules, budgets, and quality on track

What We\'re Looking For

• Bachelor\'s degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structural Engineering
• Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
• Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, or the ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe
• At least 3 years of structural engineering experience in a consulting environment preferred
• Strong knowledge of building codes, design standards, and industry best practices
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work professionally with clients and project teams

Preferred experience and skills:

• Software: RAM Structural System, RAM Steel, ENERCALC, STAAD.Pro, AutoCAD, Autodesk Revit, Microsoft Office Suite
• Structural analysis and design of steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and wood structures
• Preparing and reviewing construction documents
• Code interpretation (IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, NDS, TMS, and others)
• Construction administration and field observation
• Working directly with clients, architects, and contractors through every project phase
