Position Overview
As a Structural Design Engineer, you will be part of a growing team supporting all aspects of construction through innovative design engineering, brainstorming conceptual designs, performing and reviewing structural calculations, developing plans, scheduling tasks to meet client needs, and mitigating risks to ensure safety of construction crews.

District Overview
Kiewit Power Engineers brings various project types across North America, including gas-fired generation, power delivery, environmental retrofits, renewables, and water/wastewater. Our staff leads the power markets engineering process, collaborating with construction teams to focus on safe, cost-effective, and innovative designs that meet client expectations and uphold Kiewit's legacy of excellence.

Location
This position can be based at one of our regional offices with potential for hybrid/flexible working options.

Responsibilities

  1. Prepare designs for assigned structures, including research, selection of lateral force resisting systems, analysis, and drawing preparation for power generation projects.
  2. Apply department and industry standards when preparing calculations, project drawings, and specifications.
  3. Understand and meet or exceed the requirements of EPC contracts, RFPs, service agreements, or other contractual obligations.
  4. Research new markets and adapt workflows to execute project deliverables successfully.
  5. Coordinate with internal and external partners, including cross-discipline teams, construction, vendors, fabricators, and owners, to address structural issues.
  6. Prepare, monitor, and update project plans, schedules, and budgets, including staffing needs, reporting to project and department management.
  7. Support department managers in achieving performance goals.
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  2. At least three years of experience in structural engineering and design.
  3. Experience in the power or industrial markets is preferred.
  4. Proficiency in spreadsheets, databases, word processing, and computer operations.
  5. Knowledge of engineering software such as SAP2000, SAFE, and Mathcad is preferred.
  6. Knowledge of standards like ASCE 7, ACI 318, AISC 360, and IBC.
  7. Licensed Professional Engineer preferred; candidates with Engineer In Training certification and relevant experience will be considered.
  8. Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  9. Strong communication skills in English.
