Job summary

Castillo Engineering is seeking a Structural Engineer I to help design utility-scale solar and battery storage projects in the United States. You’ll perform structural analysis, assist in calculations, drawings, and permit documents under senior engineers’ supervision.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural, Civil, or Architectural Engineering.
  • 1-3 years of structural engineering experience.
  • EIT certification preferred or obtainable within 1 year.
  • Familiarity with structural analysis software (RISA, STAAD, SAP2000) and AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of IBC and ASCE 7.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural engineering analysis and design for utility-scale solar and BESS projects.
  • Assist in preparation of structural calculations, reports, and construction drawings.
  • Support design of racking systems, foundations, module supports, and BOS components.
  • Review geotechnical reports, site conditions, and loading with guidance from seniors.
  • Collaborate with electrical, civil, and project management teams.
  • Participate in QA/QC reviews throughout the design process.
  • Assist with engineering change evaluations and construction support.
  • Develop knowledge of building codes and renewable energy design practices.
  • Support permitting and engineering documentation for approvals.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform structural engineering analysis and design for utility-scale solar and battery energy storage system (BESS) projects.
  • Assist in the preparation of structural calculations, engineering reports, and construction drawings.
  • Support the design of racking systems, equipment foundations, module supports, and balance-of-system structural components.
  • Review geotechnical reports, site conditions, and loading requirements under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Collaborate with electrical, civil, and project management teams to support integrated project execution.
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality control reviews throughout the design process.
  • Assist with engineering change evaluations and construction support activities.
  • Develop technical knowledge of applicable building codes, industry standards, and renewable energy design practices.
  • Support permitting efforts and engineering documentation for project approvals.
What You’ll Bring
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Architectural Engineering.
  • 1-3 years of structural engineering experience.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred or ability to obtain within one year.
  • Familiarity with structural analysis software such as RISA, STAAD, SAP2000, or similar tools.
  • AutoCAD experience.
  • Working knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7, and structural engineering principles.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, remote environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to engineering excellence.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting utility-scale solar, battery energy storage, power delivery, or renewable energy projects.
  • Exposure to steel, concrete, and foundation design.
  • Familiarity with solar racking systems and foundation solutions.
  • Experience preparing engineering documentation for permitting or construction.
