Job summary

NEI Electric Power Engineering in Lakewood, CO, seeks a Structural Designer for nationwide renewable projects, focusing on steel, concrete and foundations for solar, wind, BESS, and substations. You will draft and model to deliver buildable, cost-effective designs.

You will collaborate with civil, electrical and mechanical teams, apply IBC/ACI/AISC/ASCE 7, support with calculations, shop drawing reviews and field verifications. Remote candidates welcome full-time.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in related field.
  • 3–5+ years of drafting and design experience.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD and MS Office.
  • Knowledge of PLS-CADD/PLS-POLE is a plus.
  • Experience on renewable/utility-scale projects preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and detail steel, concrete, and foundation systems for utility-scale renewables.
  • Produce general arrangement drawings, foundation plans, and reinforcement details.
  • Check designs for accuracy, constructability, and code compliance.
  • Coordinate with civil, electrical, and mechanical teams; review shop drawings.
  • Assist with design calculations and material take-offs; perform limited field checks.
  • Support project team with timely, buildable construction deliverables.

Designer – Renewable StructuralAbout the PositionAs a Structural Designer in the Renewable Structural group, you will be responsible for the design and detailing of steel, concrete, and foundation systems for utility-scale solar, wind, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and substations nationwide. This position will work collaboratively with engineers and multi-disciplinary teams to develop high-quality construction deliverables. Structural Designers are responsible for drafting and modeling in a manner that ensures accurate, buildable, and cost-effective designs are delivered on time and within budget.This opportunity is available to local / in-office (Lakewood, Colorado) and full-time remote candidates.Essential ResponsibilitiesPerform detailed structural design and drafting for utility-scale renewable projects, including:Steel racking systems and supports for PV solar arraysWind turbine foundations, anchor bolt layouts, and tower interface detailsBESS enclosure foundations and steel support structuresSubstation steel structures, bus supports, equipment stands, and transmission pole framingProduce structural drawing packages including:General arrangement drawings, foundation plans/sections, reinforcing detailsSteel framing plans, elevations, and connection detailsStructure loading diagrams, fabrication drawings, and installation detailsSupport engineers with preparation of design calculations, construction details, and material take-offsCheck and coordinate designs to ensure accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project specifications and codesAssist with review of vendor/shop drawings and submittals for conformance with project requirementsPerform limited field inspections to verify as-built conditions and support construction teamsCollaborate across disciplines (civil, electrical, and mechanical) to ensure alignment between site design and structural systemsApply knowledge of relevant Codes and Standards (IBC, ACI, AISC, ASCE 7, IEEE, etc.)Understanding of applicable Codes and StandardsOther duties as assignedMust HaveEducation: Associates degree in related field preferredExperience: 3 – 5+ years of drafting, design, engineering, or related experienceProficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite requiredA strong command of the English languagePossesses effective written and oral communications skillsGood interpersonal and people skillsApplicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basisNice to HaveProficiency with and/or knowledge of modeling and design software PLS-CADD and PLS-POLE would be a plusProficiency with Civil 3D would be a plusProficiency with MicroStation would be a plusWorking ConditionsWork Environment:Work is performed in an office setting and some field work may be requiredTravel:Minimal: 0 – 10%Physical Activities:Managerial Responsibility:Must be able to lift 25lbs.Team Member is responsible for managing their own work schedule with input from their supervisor and completing assigned tasks.Team Member should identify discrepancies in assigned work and bring to attention of supervisor or engineer responsible for the project in a timely manner.
