Job summary

LVI Associates is seeking a licensed Structural Engineer in Wisconsin to lead the design and delivery of heavy industrial projects, with a focus on pulp and paper facilities.

You will perform structural analysis and design of steel and reinforced concrete systems, coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams, conduct field investigations, and mentor junior staff in a collaborative, hands-on environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Active Professional Engineer license.
  • Structural engineering experience in heavy industrial, manufacturing, process, or pulp and paper environments.
  • Experience designing steel and reinforced concrete structures and foundations.
  • Understanding of structural loads, equipment loads, vibration considerations, and industrial operating conditions.
  • Experience evaluating and modifying existing structures.
  • Knowledge of structural building codes, material standards, and industrial construction practices.

About Your Manager

You’ll work under experienced engineering leadership with a strong understanding of pulp and paper facilities, industrial structural systems, and multidisciplinary project delivery.

The leadership team takes a practical and collaborative approach, encouraging engineers to take ownership of their work while providing the support needed to navigate unfamiliar technical challenges. You’ll also have access to experienced engineers and designers across multiple disciplines, creating opportunities to share knowledge, develop professionally, and contribute to broader project decisions.

Position Overview

This is an opportunity for a licensed Structural Engineer to take a key role in the design and delivery of heavy industrial projects, with a particular focus on pulp and paper facilities.

You’ll be responsible for structural analysis, design, technical documentation, and project coordination across new installations, facility upgrades, equipment replacements, and modifications to existing structures. The work will involve close collaboration with clients, contractors, designers, and engineers from other disciplines.

The right person will be comfortable working within existing industrial facilities, solving complex structural problems, and managing multiple projects at different stages of design and construction.

Role & Responsibilities
  • Perform structural analysis and design for heavy industrial and pulp and paper facilities
  • Design structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, foundations, and equipment support systems
  • Evaluate existing buildings and structures to support facility modifications, equipment installations, and process upgrades
  • Prepare structural calculations, design criteria, technical reports, construction documents, and project specifications
  • Develop practical structural solutions that account for existing facility conditions, constructability, safety, operations, and project cost
  • Design foundations and support structures for industrial process equipment, platforms, access systems, and building modifications
  • Review drawings and models produced by structural designers and BIM staff
  • Coordinate structural requirements with mechanical, electrical, process controls, civil, architectural, and project management teams
  • Work directly with clients to understand project requirements, communicate recommendations, and resolve technical issues
  • Conduct field investigations, gather existing-condition information, and document structural conditions
  • Perform construction observation and respond to contractor questions during project execution
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, and requests for information
  • Prepare project scopes, engineering estimates, schedules, and fee proposals
  • Manage structural tasks and smaller multidisciplinary projects from initial planning through construction
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less-experienced engineers and designers
  • Support several active client projects while maintaining quality, schedule, and budget expectations

  • Willingness to visit industrial facilities and active project sites when required
Preferred Experience
  • Direct experience supporting pulp and paper mills
  • Background in heavy industrial facility design, renovation, or expansion projects
  • Experience with equipment foundations, machine supports, access platforms, industrial buildings, and process-related structures
  • Familiarity with structural analysis and design software used for steel and concrete systems
  • Experience working within Revit-based BIM environments
  • Exposure to multidisciplinary engineering and integrated project delivery
  • Experience leading structural projects or coordinating the work of engineers and designers
  • Knowledge of construction sequencing and structural modifications within operating facilities
  • Experience preparing scopes, estimates, schedules, and proposals
  • Additional state PE registrations or the ability to obtain them
