Job summary

HDR is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our Building Engineering Services group. You will design data center structures, coordinate with mechanical, electrical, and civil teams, and ensure code‑compliant, buildable solutions.

The role supports HDR’s global design and engineering efforts, with opportunities to advance in an employee‑owned culture across multiple Tennessee offices, including Brentwood. Strong collaboration and problem‑solving are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Professional engineering license recognized by licensing board (PE or P.Eng).
• Previous structural engineer experience.
• Experience with AutoCAD, RISA, STAAD, SAP, Tedds, RAM, ETABS, SAFE or similar.
• Experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm.
• Commitment to HDR’s employee‑owned culture.

Responsibilities

• Design buildings for Data Centers, including new builds, retrofits, and colocations.
• Review structural documents for conflicts with all disciplines.
• Write and edit structural specifications, select procedures, materials and sizes, and perform calculations.
• Independently coordinate the structural design team through design development and contract document phases.
• Establish meetings and participate in reviews with governing agencies for code compliance.
• Conduct design development and contract document work sessions at project site with PM and other disciplines.
• Coordinate workload through design development and construction document phases to meet schedule.
• Coordinate with affected disciplines on addenda, RFIs, change proposals and change orders, and incorporate changes.
• Perform other duties as needed.
