Job summary

City of Coral Gables is seeking an engineer to review structural plans for compliance with the Florida Building Code. You will inspect projects, enforce regulatory codes, and advise on plan conformity with FEMA regulations.

The role requires a PE license in Florida, eligibility as a Structural Plans Examiner, and a valid Florida driver’s license, with duties spanning field inspections and plan approvals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.
• Master's degree in Structural Engineering is preferred.
• Must be licensed as a Professional Engineer by the State of Florida.
• Must be a Structural Plans Examiner as per the Miami-Dade County Board of Rules and Appeals.
• Valid Florida Driver's License.

Responsibilities

• Examines the structural design and calculations of plans, blueprints, and specifications submitted to the City.
• Assists the Building Official with interpretations of structural provisions of the Code.
• Ensures that design parameters are in place and FEMA regulations are met.
• Approves or denies proposed plans in accordance with codes and other regulatory requirements.
• Inspects new construction sites and renovations to ensure compliance with permits and building codes.
• May administer FEMA flood plain regulations, conduct field inspections, evaluate damages, and maintain FEMA file systems.
• Communicates with contractors, architects, and engineers regarding plan designs and structural requirements.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
