Job description

CDR Maguire Engineering is hiring for an experienced Bridge Design Engineer for our growing Allentown, PA office. We offer exciting projects to work on, flexible hybrid schedule, casual and team-oriented work environment and career progression opportunities.

JOB SUMMARY:

At the highest level, must have an enthusiastic, entrepreneurial, and committed effort to performing their job in an ethical and proper manner. This role will be responsible for performing a variety of design and plan preparation functions with limited supervision and guidance, including engineering computations, cost estimates, checking, report writing, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Perform structural engineering design tasks as assigned by Project Manager, including preparing engineering calculations, quantities, sketches, layout drawings, etc.
2. Perform bridge related geometry, including COGO geometry.
3. Promote excellent internal and external client service throughout the organization.
4. Perform structural engineering design functions with minimal supervision, guidance, including engineering computations, report writing, etc.
5. Participate in visits to project sites, project status meetings and public meetings.
6. May perform bridge inspection as abilities permit.
7. Keep up to date with new design technology, constructions equipment and advancements.
8. Assist in the preparation of engineering reports, technical specifications, and cost estimates.
9. Provide support to other offices as needed.

OTHER PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

1. Other duties that may arise from time-to-time and/or are commensurate with the title and position.
2. Travel as required and as it relates to above duties or as directed by supervisor.
3. Attend training prerequisites as provided by Company.

Requirements

1. B.S. Degree in Engineering or related field, Master’s degree preferred.
2. 1-2+ years of related experience; 5+ years P.E. preferred.
3. EIT Certificate or ability to attain within 6 months of employment.
4. Ability to communicate effectively with ownership, management, co-workers, customers, vendors, contractors, partners, and other stakeholders.
5. Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal statutes and guidelines with respect to field.
6. Knowledge of general structural engineering.
7. Knowledge of clients' design manuals, procedures, specifications, standards, computer programs, applicable design codes, engineering software, and plan presentation format.
8. Knowledge of written communications including technical reports, letters, meeting minutes, etc.
9. Knowledge of CDR-M Design and Office Procedures.
10. Skilled in using relevant software as needed, including but not limited to, Bentley MicroStation CADD, Inroad’s, Autodesk AutoCAD, Civil 3D, “MATHCAD”, STAAD II and Bluebeam as well as other online resources.
11. Ability to perform less complex structural engineering design tasks independently and more complex design tasks with supervision of senior engineering staff.
12. Hydraulic and hydrologic analysis/reports including HEC-2 analysis.
