Job summary

Vanir Construction Management, Inc. in Los Angeles is seeking a structural engineer to perform moderately complex design, analysis and review of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for concrete, steel, masonry and related structures.

The role involves contract administration, preparation of design and QA plans, and collaboration with engineers, consultants and inspectors to ensure code compliance and feasibility of construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in structural engineering or civil engineering with specialization in structural engineering courses.
• Three (3) years full-time paid professional structural engineering experience.
• Emphasis on school building construction is preferred.
• Possession of a Professional Engineer (PE) certification recognized by state boards is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs moderately complex structural engineering work including preparation, analysis and review of design plans, specifications, estimates and reports for compliance with guidelines from federal, state and local agencies.
• Performs contract administration in reviewing structural services required of engineering consultants and architects; makes revisions and recommendations.
• Prepares structural design plans and specifications, QA plans, and cost estimates for construction, maintenance and operation of various structures.
• Assists in reviewing project status; initiates changes and provides guidance to structural designers and other staff.
• Reviews structural plans and calculations, contributing to completion of projects and determining cost/expenditure for alternative construction methods.
• Assists in ensuring conformity to standards and feasibility of construction; checks completeness and accuracy of work.
• Assists in designing layout of foundations, floors, walls and roof framing for major structures.
• Makes recommendations to contractors, architects, engineers and inspectors on structural issues during construction.
• Analyzes environmental impact and soils data to advise on foundation design.
• Prepares feasibility reports and preliminary designs for proposed structures and facilities.
• Performs site investigations and prepares scoping reports and recommendations.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Description

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Performs moderately complex structural engineering work to include the preparation, analysisand review of design plans, specifications, estimates and reports to comply with guidelinesset by both federal, state and local agencies.
• Performs contract administration in the review of structural services required of engineeringconsultants and architects and make appropriate revisions and recommendations.
• Prepares structural design plans and specifications, quality assurance plans, conceptual anddetailed cost estimates and other reports necessary for the construction, maintenance andoperation of various concrete, structural steel, timber, masonry, metal, timber structures andother related materials.
• Assists in the review of project status, initiates changes and provides advice and assistanceto structural designers and other engineering and design staff.
• Assists in the review of structural plans and specifications, design and mathematicalcalculations in the completion of structural engineering projects and assignments as well ascreating cost and expenditure requirements for alternate means of construction.
• Assists in the review of completed structural work for conformance to recognized standardsand feasibility of construction as well as completeness and accuracy.
• Assists in the design and layout of foundation, floor, wall and roof framing plans for majorbuilding structures.
• Makes recommendations to contractors, architects, engineers and construction inspectors onstructural issues during construction.
• Analyzes environmental impact reports, negative declarations and soils tests data to makeappropriate recommendations for foundation design.
• Prepares feasibility reports and preliminary design for proposed structures and facilities underconstruction.
• Perform site investigations and prepare scoping reports and recommendations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in structuralengineering or civil engineering with specialization on structural engineering courses.
• Three (3) years full-time paid professional structural engineering experience
• Emphasis on school building construction is preferred
• Possession of a Certification as a Professional Engineer (PE) recognized by the State of CABoard of Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists is preferred.
