Job summary

LVI Associates is seeking a Structural Engineer to join the Sacramento team to work on architecturally significant projects across a multidisciplinary practice.

The ideal candidate will collaborate with design professionals and lead structural design efforts from concept through construction, with emphasis on mentorship and professional development within a national portfolio.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with structural emphasis required.
  • 3–8+ years of structural engineering experience in building design.
  • EIT certification required; PE license preferred.
  • Proficiency in design of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures.
  • Experience with IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318, NDS, TMS Masonry Code.
  • Proficient in Revit and BIM workflows; strong reporting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop structural designs for buildings using various materials.
  • Perform gravity, lateral, wind, and seismic analyses per codes.
  • Prepare calculations, reports, and design narratives.
  • Coordinate with PMs, architects, and other engineers throughout design phases.
  • Review drawings, submittals, RFI responses during construction.

Position Overview

The Structural Engineer will be responsible for the analysis, design, and documentation of building structures across a variety of project types. This individual will work closely with project managers, architects, and other engineering disciplines throughout all phases of design and construction.

Key Responsibilities
Structural Design & Analysis
  • Develop structural designs for buildings utilizing steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, timber, and hybrid structural systems.
  • Perform gravity, lateral, wind, and seismic analysis in accordance with applicable building codes and industry standards.
  • Prepare comprehensive structural calculations, technical reports, and design narratives.
  • Evaluate existing structures and provide recommendations for renovations, seismic upgrades, and adaptive reuse projects.
  • Participate in seismic assessments and retrofit designs for existing facilities.
Project Delivery
  • Prepare and coordinate structural construction documents through all project phases, including schematic design, design development, construction documents, and construction administration.
  • Work within BIM and Revit environments to develop coordinated multidisciplinary building models.
  • Coordinate structural systems with architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and specialty consultant teams.
  • Participate in design meetings, client presentations, and project coordination sessions.
  • Review shop drawings, submittals, RFIs, and contractor inquiries during construction.
Technical Leadership
  • Provide technical guidance to EITs, designers, and drafting staff.
  • Participate in internal quality assurance and quality control reviews.
  • Assist with project planning, workload forecasting, and resource management.
  • Contribute to engineering innovation initiatives and implementation of new technologies.
Client & Business Development Support
  • Develop strong relationships with clients, contractors, and consulting partners.
  • Assist senior staff with proposal preparation, fee development, and project pursuits.
  • Support presentations and business development initiatives where appropriate.
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering with a Structural emphasis.
  • 3-8+ years of structural engineering experience focused on building design.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
  • Strong foundation in structural analysis and design of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures.
  • Experience preparing engineering calculations and construction documents.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • IBC
    • ASCE 7
    • AISC
    • ACI 318
    • NDS
    • TMS Masonry Code
  • Proficiency with industry-standard structural engineering software.
  • Experience using Revit and BIM-based workflows.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or actively pursuing licensure.
  • Structural Engineer (SE) license or desire to obtain.
  • Experience with healthcare, higher education, civic, or science & technology projects.
  • Construction administration experience including field observations and site visits.
  • Familiarity with ASCE 41 seismic evaluation and retrofit methodologies.
