Job summary

Thomas & Hutton seeks a seasoned Structural Engineer to advance diverse projects across the Southeast. You’ll lead analysis and design for industrial, commercial, municipal, and marine structures, while mentoring engineers and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.

You will prepare construction documents using Revit and AutoCAD, ensure code compliance, and perform field observations. A PE license is required; SE certification is a plus, with travel to other offices as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural focus.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Structural Engineer (SE) certification strongly preferred.
  • 8+ years of structural design experience.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis and finite element modeling software, primarily RISA and SAP2000.
  • Strong knowledge of structural design principles and experience with concrete, wood, structural steel, and masonry.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Mathcad, Excel, and ENERCALC.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and project teams.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize workflow, and complete tasks within budget.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform field work for assessments and construction observation in a variety of environments.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to periodically travel to other offices.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analysis and design for industrial, commercial, municipal, marine, institutional, residential, and energy projects.
  • Design a variety of structures, including treatment plants, bulkheads, piers, wharves, bridges, buildings, drainage and water-control structures, marinas, pump stations, monuments, and specialty equipment foundations.
  • Prepare construction documents, including drawings in Revit and AutoCAD, calculations, technical specifications, and design deliverables.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, local amendments, and project standards.
  • Perform structural condition assessments of existing structures and prepare detailed reports.
  • Provide construction administration services, including submittal reviews, site visits, contractor coordination, and responses to technical questions.
  • Coordinate regularly with clients, project managers, and other design disciplines throughout project delivery.
  • Perform peer reviews of calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
  • Mentor and support engineers and engineering interns within the structural department.
  • Manage project tasks to meet scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations.

What You’ll Do

What You Bring
