Job summary

Thomas & Hutton seeks a seasoned Structural Engineer to advance complex designs across diverse sectors. You will lead analysis and documentation, guide junior engineers, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality projects on time.

The role requires a PE license and 8+ years of experience, with strong Revit, AutoCAD, and hands-on field observation. Travel to other offices may be needed; on-site collaboration is expected.

Qualifications

• PE license required; Structural Engineer (SE) certification strongly preferred.
• 8+ years of structural design experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural focus.
• Proficiency with structural analysis software: RISA and SAP2000; experience with AutoCAD and Revit.
• Ability to travel to other offices as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural design and analysis for a range of projects including industrial, commercial, municipal, and marine structures.
• Prepare drawings and design deliverables using Revit and AutoCAD, plus calculations and specs.
• Ensure compliance with codes and project standards; manage budgets and schedules.
• Provide construction administration and client coordination; mentor engineers and interns.
• Conduct peer reviews of calculations, drawings, and reports; support project team collaboration.

What you’ll do:

• Perform structural analysis and design for industrial, commercial, municipal, marine, institutional, residential, and energy projects
• Design a variety of structures, including treatment plants, bulkheads, piers, wharves, bridges, buildings, drainage and water-control structures, marinas, pump stations, monuments, and specialty equipment foundations
• Prepare construction documents, including drawings in Revit and AutoCAD, calculations, technical specifications, and design deliverables
• Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes, local amendments, and project standards
• Perform structural condition assessments of existing structures and prepare detailed reports
• Provide construction administration services, including submittal reviews, site visits, contractor coordination, and responses to technical questions
• Coordinate regularly with clients, project managers, and other design disciplines throughout project delivery
• Perform peer reviews of calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports
• Mentor and support engineers and engineering interns within the structural department
• Manage project tasks to meet scope, schedule, budget, and quality expectations

What you bring:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a structural focus
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Structural Engineer (SE) certification strongly preferred
• 8+ years of structural design experience
• Proficiency with structural analysis and finite element modeling software, primarily RISA and SAP2000
• Strong knowledge of structural design principles and experience with concrete, wood, structural steel, and masonry
• Experience with AutoCAD and Revit
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Mathcad, Excel, and ENERCALC
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and project teams
• Proven ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize workflow, and complete tasks within budget
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to perform field work for assessments and construction observation in a variety of environments
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
• Excellent time-management skills and ability to meet deadlines
• Willingness to periodically travel to other offices
