Job summary

Fishbeck, a 100% employee-owned firm with 70+ years of building experience, seeks a Structural Engineer in Grand Rapids. You will apply structural analysis and design across municipal, educational, industrial, and commercial projects, using steel, concrete, masonry, and timber systems.

Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in a multi-office environment, develop calculations and drawings, and participate in site visits as needed. Hybrid schedule offered.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a structural emphasis from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Michigan preferred, or ability to obtain Michigan licensure through reciprocity.
  • Familiarity with AISC 360, ACI 318; willingness to learn IBC, ASCE 7, AISC 341, ACI 350, ACI 530, and NDS.
  • Familiarity with Revit modeling software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Participate in project coordination and site visits as needed.

Job description

Working with our Structural Engineering team, you will apply your knowledge of structural analysis, design, and materials across a wide variety of projects. You will work with structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and wood/timber systems on buildings, treatment plants, utility tunnels, piping supports, and other project types for municipal, educational, industrial, and commercial clients.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform structural analysis and design using structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and wood/timber systems.
  • Work on a variety of project types, including buildings, treatment plants, utility tunnels, piping supports, and other structures.
  • Collaborate with technical staff across Fishbeck to provide consulting engineering services for universities, municipalities, architects, national retailers, industrial clients, and local development clients.
  • Work closely with fellow structural engineers and multidisciplinary project team members in a multi-office environment.
  • Assist with the development of structural calculations, drawings, and other project documentation.
  • Participate in project coordination and site visits as needed.
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a structural emphasis from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Michigan preferred, or ability to obtain Michigan licensure through reciprocity.
  • Familiarity with structural design standards including AISC 360 and ACI 318.
  • Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, IBC, ASCE 7, AISC 341, ACI 350, ACI 530, and NDS.
  • Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, Revit modeling software.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary, multi-office team environment.
