Job description

Job Title: Structural Engineer III

Location: Byron, IL

Company: Allied Resources Technical Consultants

Overview: An established nuclear facility in Byron, IL is seeking a Structural Engineer III to support high-impact engineering projects, plant upgrades, and structural design work. This is a long-term role that offers fully reimbursed travel and GSA-based per diem for those who qualify. The engineer will be deeply involved in structural design, vibration mitigation, system analysis, and equipment upgrades across multiple nuclear sites.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and author design change packages per nuclear design standards (IP-ENG-001).
  • Provide structural engineering support during plant refueling outages and component upgrades.
  • Evaluate and resolve structural and vibration-related issues for equipment, motors, piping, and heavy systems.
  • Perform containment validations, vibration analysis/mitigation, reactor embrittlement studies, and licensing support.
  • Direct and manage structural engineering efforts and mentor junior engineers as needed.
  • Contribute to major capital projects including Steam Generator Replacements, Main Generator Retrofits, and Power Uprates (EPU/SPU).
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure accuracy, safety, and regulatory compliance.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Structural Engineering (Master’s preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of structural engineering experience, preferably in nuclear or heavy industrial settings.
  • Strong background in design engineering for motors, piping, structures, and mechanical supports.
  • Experience in vibration mitigation and equipment loading issues.
  • Familiarity with power plant systems analysis and regulatory compliance work.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted nuclear plant access and radiological worker clearance.
