Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, CAD, or related field.
  • 5+ years of structural design/drafting experience.
  • Experience in industrial, energy, or infrastructure projects.
  • Familiarity with EPC environments or multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD (required); Revit/Navisworks preferred.
  • Ability to interpret vendor equipment drawings and integrate into layouts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop construction drawings and structural deliverables for steel and concrete systems.
  • Interpret project scope, specifications, and design criteria.
  • Review and incorporate vendor/interdisciplinary layouts into structural designs.
  • Support material take-offs, cost estimates, and preliminary studies.
  • Perform field investigations to verify site conditions and constructibility.
  • Coordinate with civil, mechanical, and electrical teams for integrated design.
  • Review drawings from other designers and vendors for accuracy and compliance.
  • Support construction activities, including site visits and field issue resolution.
  • Assist with scheduling and task planning to meet project deadlines.
  • Mentor junior designers and support team development.

Job description

Structural Designer III (Power Generation / Industrial Projects) Contract – Birmingham, AL (anticipated 9–12 months with strong potential for extension). Very competitive pay, time-and-a-half for OT, Mob/Demob, and strong per diem. Join a growing engineering team supporting large-scale power generation and infrastructure projects, including gas turbines, renewables, BESS, substations, and transmission systems. You’ll contribute to the development of construction-ready structural designs that go directly into the field.

Requirements:
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology, CAD, or related field 5+ years of structural design/drafting experience (typical for this level)
  • Experience in industrial, energy, or infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with EPC environments or multidisciplinary project teams
  • Strong understanding of structural steel and concrete detailing
  • Proficiency with: AutoCAD (required)
  • Revit, Navisworks, or similar 3D tools (preferred)
  • Ability to interpret vendor equipment drawings and integrate into structural layouts

Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong understanding of structural materials, detailing, and construction practices
  • Experience producing accurate, constructible designs for industrial applications
  • Familiarity with EPC workflows and fast-paced project environments
  • Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams and virtual environments
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
