Position Overview

Kiewit OGC Engineering is seeking an Entry Level Structural Designer. We are looking for ideal candidates to grow the Kiewit team by helping establish, maintain, and improve company standards and tools while also utilizing these standards and tools to contribute to project success. Candidates will be familiar with current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software with an understanding of design documentation creation and layouts. Candidates shall be capable of exhibiting flexibility in work assignments while maintaining a growth mindset and continuing to develop in their technical and professional career.

We offer a variety of engineering services, including owner's engineering, project development, detailed engineering and design, construction management and plant services. Our engineering teams bring power projects to life across North America in the following areas:

Location

This position is based out of Houston, TX. Opportunities for flexible work are available.

Responsibilities
  • Work with our design and engineering teams to develop structural designs for permanent and temporary structures (steel, wood, concrete, manufactured items, etc.) supporting construction activities on Kiewit projects.
  • Use Revit and AutoCAD along with other design authoring software such as Civil 3D, MicroStation and Tekla to produce 3D models and drawing submittals.
  • Maintain status of assigned tasks on team schedule.
  • Follow company’s CAD/BIM and quality standards.
  • Report project progression updates and/or issues to Lead Structural Designers as required.
  • Utilize applicable engineering national and local codes.
  • Develop 3D models utilizing drawings, sketches, and design skills. Check and navigate in the 3D models for interferences and constructability.
  • File master sets/originals, superseded drawings and originals as required in a timely manner.
  • Complete as-built by utilizing Request for Information (RFI) forms, Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and red-marked drawings from construction to develop “Conformed to Construction Records” as required.
  • Participate in project meetings as required.
  • Check design for consistency, safety, operability and maintenance requirements before submitting to checking.
  • Resolve checked drawings; prove and understand comments made.
  • Complete miscellaneous tasks to support project development.
Qualifications
  • Completion of Associate degree in Computer Aided Design, Engineering Technology, or similar program experience.
  • Experience in CAD/BIM design and production of structural design documents.
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Additional proficiency in MicroStation, Civil 3D, Tekla, or Navisworks is a plus.
  • General knowledge of engineering principles and materials for structural and civil work.
  • Read and understand construction documents.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and collaborate with Engineers and Designers.
  • Critical thinking skills necessary with the ability to plan and conceptualize.
  • Capable of recognizing conflicts and discrepancies with strong attention to detail.
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Construction experience is a plus.
  • Must be able to complete an on-site rotation within the first 3 years of employment.
