Position Overview

Kiewit OGC Engineering is seeking an Entry Level Structural Designer. We are looking for candidates to help establish, maintain, and improve company standards and tools, and to utilize these standards to contribute to project success. Candidates should be familiar with current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software, with an understanding of design documentation creation and layouts. Flexibility, a growth mindset, and ongoing professional development are essential.

District Overview

Kiewit Engineering Group, Inc is a full-service consulting and engineering firm serving infrastructure markets. Our staff of over 1,300 engineers and design professionals have expertise across major disciplines, supporting transportation, power, water/wastewater, mining, building, and oil, gas & chemical markets. With 130 years of construction experience, our focus is on constructability and safety to ensure on-time, on-budget project delivery.

Our rapidly growing OGC district, which includes structural, civil, piping, mechanical, process, safety, electrical, and control disciplines, specializes in EPC delivery for power facilities. We offer engineering services such as owner's engineering, project development, detailed engineering, construction management, and plant services. Our teams deliver power projects across North America in areas like:

  • Gas-fired generation
  • Power delivery

Location

This position is based in Houston, TX, with flexible work options available.

Responsibilities

  • Develop structural designs for permanent and temporary structures supporting construction activities, using steel, wood, concrete, and manufactured items.
  • Use Revit, AutoCAD, and other software like Civil 3D, MicroStation, Tekla to produce 3D models and drawings.
  • Maintain task status within the team schedule.
  • Follow company CAD/BIM and quality standards.
  • Report project progress and issues to Lead Structural Designers.
  • Apply relevant engineering codes and standards.
  • Create and check 3D models for interferences and constructability.
  • Manage document filing and updates, including as-builts and change records.
  • Participate in project meetings.
  • Review designs for safety, operability, and maintenance considerations.
  • Resolve design issues and comments.
  • Support project development with miscellaneous tasks.

Qualifications

  • Experience in CAD/BIM and structural design documentation.
  • Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD; knowledge of MicroStation, Civil 3D, Tekla, Navisworks is a plus.
  • Understanding of engineering principles and materials for structural and civil work.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Critical thinking and conflict resolution skills.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills.
  • Construction experience is advantageous.
  • Associate degree in CAD, Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
