Job summary

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience with structural steel detailed drawings.
  • Proficient in Autodesk software and general drafting tools.
  • Knowledge of OSHA / IBC / PIP requirements.

  • Develop and maintain drawing status/revision history.
  • Check and verify accuracy of drawings prepared by others.

Job Description

Responsibilities and requirements:

  • 5+ years experience with structural steel detailed drawings of parts and assemblies from layouts, designs, and working drawings, including necessary projections, sectional views, and standard specifications.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD (2D), Autodesk Inventor (3D), and Vault.
  • Develop BOMs and maintain drawing status/revision history in a fast-paced shop fabrication environment.
  • Interpret verbal or written directions to initiate preliminary designs.
  • Perform basic calculations and trigonometry functions related to area, slope (rise & run), etc., using charts and tables to complete client’s scope of work.
  • Apply applicable company design standards.
  • Check and verify the accuracy of drawings prepared by clients and contractors.
  • Revise drawings and BOMs in response to engineering changes.
  • Assemble information and reference drawings from various sources.
  • Continuously seek product improvements and cost reductions.
  • Recognize scope changes and assess their impact on cost and schedule.
  • Maintain proper file management according to industry standards.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, subcontractors, vendors, and other stakeholders.
  • Develop drawing transmittals for IFA / IFC processes.
  • Create plate nesting reports for laser operations (Sigma Nest).
  • Create length nesting reports for saw cutting (EJE).
  • High School Diploma or GED required; Associate degree from a technical institution preferred.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor (SolidWorks acceptable), and Vault.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office / MS Teams.
  • Familiar with weld symbology and structural steel drawing practices.

  • Understand ASTM materials and applications.
  • Develop automation efforts in Autodesk Inventor (iParts, iAssembly, iLogic).
  • Be self-motivated and drive continuous improvement.
  • Train co-workers on software and techniques.
  • Manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
