Job summary

Pacific Southwest Structures, Inc. seeks a Senior Project Engineer to manage day-to-day needs of structural concrete projects across the region, including document control, planning, cost control, scheduling, and subcontractor management.

Responsibilities include RFIs, submittals, change orders, material procurement, and safety compliance, with a focus on quality and timely project completion across office and field environments.

Qualifications

  • Minimum two (2) years of experience in commercial construction.
  • Proficiency in contract document management and cost control.
  • Experience with scheduling, RFIs, submittals, and change orders.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure project schedules are effectively executed and deadlines are met.
  • Gather, prepare and submit required information and submittals.
  • Generate RFIs to clarify specifications and requirements.
  • Ensure all extra work tickets are completed and tracked.
  • Track contract changes and price Change Orders.
  • Oversee weekly production planning and review project costs.
  • Manage subcontractor billings and approve vendor payments.
  • Procure materials with knowledge of contract requirements and on-site needs.
  • Document project progress with photographs for records.
  • Maintain inspection and testing records for compliance.
  • Create and manage accurate as‑built drawings.
  • Track close-out requirements and punch lists.

Job description

Job Summary:

The Senior Project Engineer manages day-to-day project management needs of assigned structural concrete projects throughout the region, including document control, technical planning, cost control, quality control, scheduling, subcontractor management, coordination with General Contractors, and support of PSSI field operations.

Responsibilities:

The essential functions and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  1. Project Schedule: Ensure project schedules are effectively executed, and deadlines are met.
  2. Prepare Submittals: Responsible for gathering, preparing, or acquiring necessary information and submitting them as required.
  3. Generating Request for Information (RFI) forms: Generating and submitting RFIs as necessary to clarify project specifications and requirements.
  4. Extra Work Tickets: Ensure all extra work tickets are complete, appropriately signed, and tracked.
  5. Change Management: Track and identify contract changes.
  6. Change Orders: Price and submit Change Order Requests.
  7. Cost Control: Weekly production planning and review of project costs.
  8. Billings: Manage subcontractor billings and review and approve vendor payments.
  9. Procure Materials: Work alongside superintendents and foremen to procure materials, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of contract requirements, purchase orders, necessary quantities, and on-site needs.
  10. Progress Documentation: Document project progress with photographs for recordkeeping.
  11. File and Maintain Inspection and Testing Records: Organize, file, and maintain records of inspections and testing for compliance and reference.
  12. As-Built Drawings: Create and manage accurate as-built drawings for project documentation.
  13. Close out: Track close-out requirements and punch list to ensure completed in a timely manner.
  14. A commitment to safety: Ensure projects adhere to all PSSI and project safety protocols and operational guidelines.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience

Proficient knowledge of concrete construction and analytical skills. Minimum two (2) years of experience in commercial construction. Commercial Cast in place construction preferred.

Technical Skills
  • Advanced in Contract Document management.
  • Proficiency in Shoring and Reshoring.
  • Advanced in Project Planning.
  • Advanced in Cost Estimating, Budgeting, and Forecasting.
  • Advanced in computer skills, to include Microsoft Office suite, Timberline PM Software, Timberline Estimating, On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam Revu, Procore, Autodesk Build, Autodesk AutoCAD, and BIM software.
  • Proficiency in Cast-in-Place Concrete Construction.
  • Proficiency in Concrete Material and Mix designs.
  • Proficiency in Formwork Engineering and Systems.
  • Proficiency in Rebar Detailing and PT Engineering.
Abilities:
  • Excellent listener with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to identify and resolve complex issues.
  • Ability to build positive relations with all constituents and create team morale.
  • A strong work ethic with a "can-do" attitude.

  • Climbing stairs or uneven terrain to access various areas of a project.
Work environment:
  • General office environment as well as construction environments.
  • Spends a significant amount of time working outdoors in various weather conditions when visiting jobsites.
  • Moderate noise levels (i.e., business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic) to noisy conditions on jobsites.

The salary range for this full-time role is $90,000 - $110,000 per year.
