Job summary

MEI is seeking a Computer Aided Design Drafter in Southbridge, MA. The role supports structural steel, machinery, and fabrication projects by producing accurate 2D drawings, 3D models, and fabrication documentation.

Collaboration with project leadership, shop personnel, and field crews is essential to translate site conditions into workable designs. The position emphasizes field measurement collection, design revisions, and drawing management throughout design, fabrication, and installation

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical CAD training preferred.
• 1–3 years of CAD design, drafting or related experience preferred.
• Experience with steel fabrication, structural steel, or industrial environments preferred.
• Working knowledge of SolidWorks, AutoCAD or comparable software; able to learn new programs.
• Ability to create and interpret 2D drawings, 3D models, and BOMs.
• Knowledge of welding symbols and industrial installation practices preferred.
• Ability to incorporate field measurements into designs with accuracy.
• Strong written/verbal communication and time management skills.

Responsibilities

• Create accurate 2D drawings, 3D models, and fabrication designs using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and related software.
• Develop shop, assembly, installation, and fabrication drawings, layouts, and BOMs.
• Design components and systems for structural steel, machinery platforms, mezzanines, conveyors, and supports.
• Translate project specs, sketches, field measurements, and customer requirements into designs.
• Conduct field/site visits to obtain measurements and verify conditions.
• Develop and revise drawings based on field conditions and project changes.
• Perform design calculations, material selection, and design validation as needed.
• Review designs for accuracy, completeness, and constructability.
• Coordinate with Project Managers, Estimators, Fabricators, Welders, and field crews.
• Maintain drawing revisions, as-built drawings, BOMs, and project documentation.
• Independently manage assigned design projects and communicate technical information.
• Complete special projects and tasks as assigned.
