Qualifications

  • 8-12 years of experience in structural engineering.
  • Master's degree preferred in structural engineering or related field.
  • Strong technical skills in structural design of steel and concrete.
  • Proficient in steel connection design and industry software (Excel, Mathcad, Tekla, Revit, AutoCAD).
  • Experience leading a team of 3-8 people.
  • PE and/or SE license.
  • Willingness to travel within the US and internationally.

Responsibilities

  • Manage direction, coordination, planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects.
  • Communicate with clients to understand and deliver project requirements.
  • Develop new clients and revenue channels.
  • Plan and organize engineering program and staff according to project needs.
  • Design and analyze Industrial/Advanced Manufacturing buildings and structures.
  • Oversee design team, supervise engineers and modelers, and prepare contract documents.
  • Direct project staff in preparing contract documents.
  • Ensure QA/QC for team, project, and deliverables.

Our Construction Engineering practice works with fabricators, erectors, construction managers and general contractors to provide connection design, temporary stability analysis, design of structures delegated to the contractor, design of industrial structures, and construction means-and-methods engineering. There will be an emphasis on the development of relationships with current, but also new clients to grow the practices revenue potential. The core areas of focus for growth are providing structural and construction engineering services for the construction industry.

The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Structural Associate to join our team in Phoenix, Arizona. This position offers the unique opportunity to support a major, high-profile construction project on-site while also becoming part of Thornton Tomasetti's new Phoenix office and helping establish our presence in one of the country's fastest-growing markets.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the direction, coordination, planning, organization, control, integration, and completion of engineering projects.

  • Analysis and design of Industrial and Advanced Manufacturing buildings and structures.
  • Manage project design and deliverables as well as other design team members, supervise the work of engineers and modelers, and direct project staff in preparing contract documents such as drawings and specifications.

Requirements
  • 8-12 years of experience.
  • Degree (master preferred) in structural engineering or related field.
  • Strong technical skills in the areas of structural design of structural steel and concrete structures.
  • Strong working knowledge in the area of steel connection design.
  • Working knowledge of current industry software, including Microsoft Excel, Mathcad, Tekla Structures, Revit, and AutoCAD.
  • Experience in managing a team of 3-8 people.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • PE and/or SE license.
  • Ability and willingness to travel within the US and internationally.
