Job summary

Blue Origin in Huntsville, AL is seeking a structural analysis engineer to lead evaluation of combustion devices, heat exchangers and pressurized assemblies throughout design, testing and production. You will perform hand calculations and FEA, assess stresses, fatigue and creep, and work with cross-functional teams to ensure durability and life-cycle objectives.

The role requires a BS in engineering and 2+ years of experience with structural analysis tools (ANSYS, Nastran, Abaqus) and scripting.

Qualifications

• BS degree in engineering; 2+ years experience in structural analysis.
• Proficiency with FEA tools: ANSYS, Nastran, Abaqus or LS-Dyna.
• Solid understanding of mechanics, failure modes (strength, fatigue, creep).
• Experience with welded assemblies and bolted joints analysis.
• Knowledge of engineering materials and their applications for durability.
• Experience with scripting: VBA, Matlab, Python, FORTRAN.

Responsibilities

• Lead structural analysis of combustion devices, pressurized structures and heat exchangers.
• Perform hand calculations and FEA to evaluate strength, fatigue, and creep.
• Evaluate bolted joints and flange separation.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize design performance.
• Document stress analysis to support engineering drawings and documents.
• Develop automation tools for model creation, strength checks and reports.
• Support test plans to verify requirements and collect data.
