Job summary

The City of Chesapeake is seeking a General Supervisor (Streets & Hwys/Stormwater) to oversee crews performing infrastructure work in Chesapeake, VA. This role blends hands-on fieldwork with leadership, planning, and administrative duties to ensure safe, efficient projects.

Ideal candidates have four years of related experience and a valid Class A CDL (tanker endorsement within 30 days). Expect 7:00am–3:30pm, with overtime during emergencies.

Qualifications

• Requires four years of related, full-time experience.
• Requires Class A CDL with tanker endorsement within 30 days of employment.
• Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record per City standards.

Responsibilities

• Oversee crews performing asphalt and concrete work, pothole and roadway repairs, and related construction tasks.
• Enforce safety procedures and serve as after-hours duty officer on a rotating basis.
• Supervise, train staff, assign and evaluate work, and manage timecards and records.
• Plan and lead emergency operations during inclement weather and respond to storms.
• Read grades from cut sheets, lay out work zones, and coordinate with Miss Utility.
