Job summary

City of Harrisonburg is seeking a Crew Supervisor for Stormwater Maintenance to lead a field crew in maintaining, repairing, and cleaning the city’s stormwater infrastructure. The role involves planning daily work, supervising equipment operation, and ensuring site safety across BMPs, pipes, ditches, and outfalls.

The ideal candidate has substantial lead/supervisory experience in public works, with a valid CDL Class B and pesticide/VDACS credentials.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED and extensive (6+ years) lead/supervision experience in stormwater/public works/grounds/ construction areas.
• CDL Class B required.
• Possession of VDACS pesticide licenses or ability to obtain within 12 months.
• VDOT Work Zone Safety Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• On-call/stand-by availability for off-hours emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Lead a field crew maintaining stormwater infrastructure and BMPs.
• Plan daily work, supervise equipment operation and safety.
• Address drainage and flooding concerns; support MS4 activities.
• Respond to emergencies and city needs; ensure safety compliance.
