Job summary

City of Kinston is seeking a Street Maintenance Worker to perform semi-skilled labor in construction, maintenance and repair of city streets and related facilities. Tasks include pothole patching, asphalt work, sidewalk and curb repairs, drainage maintenance, and sign upkeep.

Operates backhoe, roller, loader and other equipment, often in traffic and varying weather. A high school diploma and CDL preferred; ability to work in a team is essential.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school and some experience in concrete or asphalt construction and/or heavy equipment operation.
• Ability to operate a variety of medium and heavy equipment in tight spaces and around traffic.
• Experience with street maintenance tasks such as patching potholes, asphalt work, sidewalk and curb repairs.

Responsibilities

• Patch, repair and maintain streets and sidewalks including asphalt patching and resurfacing.
• Maintain drainage systems, clean storm drains and culverts.
• Install, replace and repair street and traffic signs; maintain safety cones and barricades.
