Job summary

City of Kinston seeks a skilled equipment operator to perform maintenance and construction tasks using heavy machinery in streets, water and sewer projects. Must follow safety rules and work under supervision.

Responsibilities include trenching, grading, operating loaders and dump trucks, and assisting in winter weather operations. A valid North Carolina CDL Class A is required; high school diploma and experience preferred.

Qualifications

• Extensive knowledge of operating and maintaining medium to heavy equipment.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and OSHA regulations.
• Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally.
• Ability to diagnose minor mechanical issues and perform basic repairs.

Responsibilities

• Operate backhoes, excavators, and other heavy equipment to patch and reconstruct streets.
• Dig trenches for utilities and install/repair pipes and hydrants.
• Perform grading, load materials, and maintain rights-of-way.
• Inspect vehicles daily and report unsafe conditions.
• Assist in snow removal and de-icing operations.
• Train new employees on safe operation.
